Hiking and Backpacking Trails Sure, you can go hiking pretty much anywhere, but finding a great trail can make the difference between having a so-so time and making your hike a really memorable day. If you haven't been out on the trail much before, the two areas to focus on the most are your shoes and your backpack. Good trail footwear and a great, light pack will give you the best shot at making your first trail activities a success. Depending on the size of the pack you can take any number of items and parts on your hike. A parts geek will fill his pack with high tech items but it's not necessary to have the latest and greatest hiking equipment to enjoy a hike. Your backpacking friends and local hiking club members are terrific sources for trail info, but if you run out of ideas or places to go, check out the resources below to get info on where to go.
